Wale, Westside Gunn, Smoke DZA Drop “The Hurt Business”

Griselda Records founder/CEO Westside Gunn has blessed fans with a new single featuring the likes of Smoke DZA and Wale. The track, entitled “The Hurt Business”, comes directly from the soundtrack album CONFLICTED that will accompany the highly anticipated Griselda Records film of the same name. As the 15th track on the album, “The Hurt Business” is expected to close out the underground hip-hop crew’s first feature length film. CONFLICTED is directed by AK Reed and is set to release on January 15th of this year. The soundtrack, per Griselda member Benny the Butcher’s Instagram, is releasing January 8th and is executive produced by Westside Gunn and the late DJ Shay. Check out the full tracklist for the soundtrack below:

The newly released single is full of back and forth wrestling references between the three rappers. The track title itself is a reference to WWE stable The Hurt Business, led by professional wrestler MVP (Montel Vontavious Porter). Wale references said wrestler on the track with the following line: “Alhamdulillah, most valuable like Hassan Assad” (Hassan Assad being MVP’s birth name).

Frequent Griselda Records collaborator Camoflauge Monk handled the production for the track–with Westside Gunn, Smoke DZA, and Wale all penning their own verses. Monk also lended his production talents for track 12 on CONFLICTED, “Armani Caesar”.

“The Hurt Business” marks the second single released from the East Coast collective’s soundtrack album. The first of which being Benny the Butcher’s “3:30 in Houston”–a personal recount of the armed robbery from November of 2020 that left the Buffalo native rapper with a gunshot wound to the leg.
