Playboi Carti has officially announced the release date for his long-awaited sophomore effort Whole Lotta Red. Per Carti’s twitter, the album will be released on December 25th of this year. This project was first teased in a live performance of Playboi Carti’s from over a year ago, with Carti telling the crowd, “I’m trying to drop [Whole Lotta Red] in the next 60 days”.
Playboi Carti has been relatively inactive since his 2018 debut album Die Lit. An album that debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 list and received a number of accolades. Most of his output since that release has come in the form of features. Some of the most notable being his place on Tyler, The Creator’s 2019 track “Earthquake” and Drake’s “Pain 1993” record from the project Dark Lane Demo Tapes (released this year). Carti’s first solo effort since Die Lit was a single that landed on streaming platforms earlier in 2020 entitled “@Meh”. Carti’s first single as a lead artist since 2017.
Playboi Carti has not officially released any specifics regarding the production, features, or tracklist of the album. Though, he has teased a feature from rapper Kid Cudi in the caption of a recent Instagram post: “[Kid Cudi] wILL bE oN THis ALBuM . L0v3 hiM . W3 ALL do”.
In addition to announcing the release date for Whole Lotta Red, Playboi Carti has also presented fans with the album’s cover art and new merchandise. The merchandise includes an array of T-shirts, hoodies, and accessories. Most of which prominently feature inverted images of religious symbols.
On Playboi Carti’s official site, fans can pre-order a digital copy of Whole Lotta Red as well as purchase the new album themed merchandise. Look for Whole Lotta Red to land on all streaming platforms by December 25th.
